The Montmajour Abbey (Prix W)
3560 Corte Nuova, Fondamenta dell' Abbazia Canareggio, Venezia
May 9 – November 23, 2025
The Wilmotte Foundation presents the eleventh edition of the Prix W, a prestigious international competition that champions the art of architectural grafting—the subtle, innovative integration of contemporary design within historic contexts. Since its inception in 2005, the prize has served as a platform for emerging talents in European architecture, nurturing dialogue between tradition and transformation.
For this edition, young architects and students were challenged to engage with the atmospheric ruins of the Saint-Maur monastery at Montmajour Abbey, envisioning new ways to inhabit and revitalize the site. Their proposals explore the delicate balance between memory and modernity, combining contextual sensitivity with conceptual audacity and sustainable thinking.
The exhibition brings together the winning and shortlisted projects—testimonies to a rising generation’s ability to reimagine heritage through design. Each work is more than a blueprint; it is a reflection on the enduring relevance of architecture as a cultural bridge—linking past to future, ruin to renewal.
