Parallel Worlds, Exhibition from Macao, China
2126/A Campo de la Tana Venezia
May 10 – November 23, 2025
Arsenale
As an official collateral event of the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, Parallel Worlds invites visitors to explore the layered and multifaceted identity of Macao—a city where ancient traditions intertwine seamlessly with bold modernity. Curated by visionary architects Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu, the exhibition unfolds Macao’s complex narrative through four distinct yet interconnected “worlds”: the historic urban fabric, the dazzling realm of casino architecture, the strict geometry of the contemporary city, and the emerging horizon of a digitally envisioned future.
Through the evocative lens of photographer Iwan Baan and the engaging, immersive installations created by Macao’s students and faculty, Parallel Worlds challenges audiences to rethink the dialogue between architecture and cultural memory in a rapidly evolving metropolis.
This exhibition captures a city at the crossroads—where history, spectacle, order, and innovation coexist and collide.
